Advanced Sterilization Products (ASP) and FUJIFILM Healthcare Europe Receive CE Mark Approval for ULTRA GI Cycle

ULTRA GI™ Cycle for Duodenoscopes

Advanced Sterilization Products (ASP) and FUJIFILM Healthcare Europe announced that the ULTRA GI Cycle has been awarded. The prestigious CE mark is a major advance in duodenoscope sterilization technology for Europe. ASP, a Fortive business unit, created the ULTRA GI Cycle for the STERRAD 100NX Sterilizer with ALLClear™ Technology. This accredited cycle introduces further sterilization options for complex endoscopes, particularly duodenoscopes. With the goal of improving patient safety and clinical confidence. Significantly, health facilities can now reprocess suitable models of duodenoscopes with advanced hydrogen peroxide gas plasma sterilization. Such novel technology allows for enhanced infection control compared to conventional methods. Existing customers with the STERRAD 100NX can upgrade their systems to access this cycle.

The ULTRA GI™ Cycle’s receipt of the CE mark represents a pivotal advancement in elevating patient safety across healthcare facilities and addressing the complex challenges associated with traditional reprocessing methods. “This is a meaningful step forward in our mission to make duodenoscope reprocessing safer across Europe,” said Chad Rohrer, President, ASP. “By bringing hydrogen peroxide gas plasma sterilization into routine practice, we’re giving clinicians greater confidence to focus on what matters most – their patients.” ASP’s immediate focus is to work with medical device manufacturers to ensure that new duodenoscope models are designed to be compatible with hydrogen peroxide. The partnership with FUJIFILM Healthcare Europe is the latest example of this.

Expanding Compatibility and Innovation

Additionally, ASP and FUJIFILM ensured the ULTRA GI Cycle supports new FUJIFILM duodenoscope models ED-840T and ED-840XT, enhancing clinical efficiency.  According to Pierre Emeric. The Vice President of R&D at ASP, adding compatible models from FUJIFILM. Makes the innovation platform of the cycle strong. Customers who are currently using it can upgrade the installed equipment to access the benefits offered by ULTRA GI Cycle.

“Duodenoscopes have historically posed infection control challenges due to their contamination rates,” said Ivan Salgo, MD, VP & Chief Medical Officer at ASP. “The partnership between ASP and FUJIFILM Healthcare has resulted in a sterilization approach that exceeds current industry benchmarks, providing healthcare professionals with an advanced solution to elevate patient safety standards.”
