GE HealthCare Achieves MRI Portfolio Milestone with FDA Clearances for Next-Generation SIGNA MRI Technology

GE HealthCare achieves MRI portfolio milestone

GE HealthCare has recently made a significant announcement regarding its imaging business. The company has received FDA 510(k) clearances for its latest innovations in SIGNA MRI technology. This is a significant expansion of the company’s offerings, as it encompasses three different solutions to upgrade radiology workflows. These include the SIGNA Sprint with Freelium and the SIGNA Bolt 3T system. Moreover, the company launched the SIGNA One, an AI-driven user experience ecosystem. These solutions target the most pressing issues in the contemporary healthcare environment. At present, healthcare institutions are experiencing an increase in procedural volume and burnout. The new SIGNA series is expected to provide smarter & faster imaging solutions to a larger number of patients around the world. As a result, the new solutions provide better sustainability by using less power and helium-free magnets.

“Achieving FDA clearance of our next-generation SIGNA MRI technology underscores our commitment to expanding access to high-quality imaging and elevating the standard of care for patients everywhere,” said Kelly Londy, President and CEO, MR at GE HealthCare. “As MRI demand continues to rise across clinical areas, providers need solutions that deliver greater efficiency without compromising diagnostic precision. With this new SIGNA generation, we’re redefining what’s possible – aiming to bring smarter, faster, more sustainable and more consistent imaging to more patients, across more settings, with confidence.”

Delivering benefits of helium-free technology: SIGNA Sprint with Freelium

The SIGNA Sprint has a sealed magnet that needs less than 1% of the helium of a traditional magnet. This magnet is ventless, which means that it can be installed in a hospital in a remote or non-traditional location. At the same time, the SIGNA Bolt 3T scanner offers research-grade performance for everyday imaging. This scanner comes with a new coil package that allows for feet-first scanning to assist claustrophobic patients. All of these scanners come with the SIGNA One interface, which makes imaging easier. This interface comes with AI-driven landmark localization and automated patient positioning. This means that even less-experienced imaging technologists can obtain high-quality images with ease. These developments are part of GE HealthCare’s overall commitment to innovation and productivity. The company plans to receive the CE mark for these products in 2026.

“As imaging volumes continue to climb, we’re under constant pressure to deliver answers faster without compromising diagnostic quality. What sets this new SIGNA MR platform apart is the focus on real-world clinical workflow. From the AI-driven automation to the dramatically streamlined setup and scanning process, we’re seeing meaningful reductions in exam time and far greater consistency across technologists. It’s a true leap forward in efficiency  one that will directly benefit both the patients we serve and our staff,” said Dr. Tiron C.M. Pechet, Assistant Medical Director and CMIO at Shields Health.“At Shields, advancing imaging technology is central to who we are, particularly innovations that elevate both the care experience and image quality, and we’re excited about the future impact technologies like this can have on the communities we serve.”
