The Glazer Center for Medical Education strengthens medical education and healthcare workforce development in Tampa. Graduate medical education plays a vital role in building a strong healthcare workforce. AdventHealth Tampa launched the Glazer Center for Medical Education to support physician training and healthcare innovation. The center also improves community healthcare access. This Glazer Center investment supports future physician workforce development across Tampa Bay.
AdventHealth Tampa and the Glazer family hosted an official unveiling ceremony. The event took place at the hospital’s graduate medical education training hub. Transitioning toward advanced healthcare education remains a priority. This program also helps resident doctors get high-quality clinical training.
Advanced training programs to help with the shortage of doctors
The Florida Hospital Association says that by 2035, there will be a shortage of almost 36,000 doctors. If training continues in the same way, it may become much harder to get healthcare. So, it’s still very important to expand residency training programs. Also, keeping doctors in Florida is now a top priority for healthcare. The newly named Glazer Center functions as a central medical training facility. It supports multiple graduate medical education programs. These programs train resident physicians across various medical specialties. Furthermore, the center strengthens the local healthcare workforce pipeline. It also improves patient care outcomes throughout Tampa Bay communities.
“Graduate medical education is one of the most meaningful investments we can make in the long-term health of our community,” said Erik Wangsness, president and CEO of AdventHealth Tampa. “By training physicians here, we are expanding access to care, improving outcomes and helping ensure Tampa Bay has the physicians it needs.”
Simulation Training Improves Clinical Skills and Patient Safety
Glazer family members observed resident physicians during advanced obstetrics and gynecology simulation training. Doctors practiced how to handle complicated childbirth situations. They also dealt with obstetric emergencies in controlled clinical settings. Also, doctors practiced ways to talk to patients that put them first. These realistic simulation exercises help people make better decisions in the clinic. It is safer and easier to go from training settings to real-world patient care.
“Our family is committed to investing in the next generation, and we believe education is one of the most powerful ways to create lasting impact,” said Darcie Glazer Kassewitz, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Owner and Chairman of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Foundation, Glazer Family Foundation and Glazer Vision Foundation.“Seeing firsthand how physicians are trained here reinforced why this work matters. The emphasis on preparation, compassion and whole-person care ensures families in our community will have access to skilled, confident physicians for years to come.” Giving to charity helps improve patient care and healthcare innovation.
The Glazer Center investment helps many different areas of graduate medical education. These include programs for obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine, family medicine, general surgery, and transitional year internships. These programs also make the infrastructure for clinical education stronger. Many doctors who finish local residency programs stay in the area. So, the continuity of healthcare gets better in Tampa Bay communities. In addition, patient access to specialized healthcare services expands across the region.
“Philanthropy allows us to advance how physicians are trained and how Medical educationcare is delivered,” said Kristen McCall, president of AdventHealth Foundation West Florida. “The Glazer Family Foundation’s support directly impacts patients by helping prepare the next generation of physicians with the skills, confidence and compassion needed to care for our community.”
