Aetna Mental Health has introduced a new on-demand service to improve access to care for members. The company announced Aetna Mental Health On Demand to help people receive faster mental health support. The service gives eligible members real-time access to care through chat, phone, or video. In addition, Aetna Mental Health aims to simplify how people begin their mental health treatment journey.
The service will become available in 2027 for enrolled members. Members aged 13 and older can connect with licensed clinicians through the member website. Moreover, clinicians can offer immediate support and guide members toward continued care. The platform also uses healthcare technology to reduce administrative work and improve response times.
“Navigating the mental health system can be difficult. Individuals may not even know how to get started or how to find the right provider. That’s one reason why about 1 in 4 adults report an unmet need for mental health treatment in the past year,” said Miriam Ferriera, Vice President, Aetna Mental Well-being. “We’ve simplified the experience for members to help them access care and take the next steps with our ongoing support and coordination.”
New Support Tools Improve Mental Health Access
Aetna Mental Health also strengthened its care programs with predictive tools. These tools help identify members needing behavioral health services or urgent attention. As a result, care managers can offer quicker support and better care coordination. Furthermore, the digital health platform helps reduce delays and supports real-time access to care.
“Reaching out for mental health support takes courage,” said Nathan Frank, Chief Digital and Technology Officer at Aetna. “The last thing someone in that moment should face is friction. We designed Aetna Mental Health On Demand so that when a member takes that step, our clinicians are already there — ready in seconds.”
During testing, clinicians reportedly answered members within 13 seconds. Therefore, Aetna Mental Health continues building better mental health support through connected healthcare technology.
