Heru Launches PretestPro™ for Heru Prime VR-Powered Diagnostic Headset

Heru, a leader in AI-powered vision diagnostics, announced the U.S. launch of Heru PretestPro™. The new solution operates through the Heru Prime wearable platform. It completes four pretest exams in only 90 seconds. Moreover, Heru will provide PretestPro free to all current and future Heru Prime customers. Customers will receive the feature through an automatic software update.

The Heru PretestPro™ platform addresses several challenges within conventional eye pretesting workflows. Traditional processes often require multiple devices and manual procedures. Consequently, clinicians can spend considerable time preparing patients before comprehensive examinations.

Heru designed PretestPro to bring these activities into one guided wearable workflow. The platform combines virtual reality (VR) with eye tracking technology. As a result, clinicians can collect several diagnostic measurements through one streamlined examination.

VR and Eye Tracking Support Automated Testing

Heru developed PretestPro from 15 years of vision science research and clinical validation. That work originated at Bascom Palmer, the #1 ranked eye hospital in the nation. The technology uses VR and eye tracking to capture multiple tests during one guided workflow. It then produces a consolidated, quantitative report of the results. Therefore, clinicians can replace subjective and manual testing with a more consistent digital process.

During testing, patients receive guidance from Nora, Heru’s patient-friendly fixation target. Nora helps patients maintain fixation throughout the examination. Meanwhile, PretestPro conducts four critical pretesting eye exams. These exams include 8-point suprathreshold testing and near cover testing. They also include extraocular motility (EOM) and quantitative pupillometry. The pupillometry assessment includes RAPD and PERRLA status.

Furthermore, Heru has published peer-reviewed evidence supporting the VR and eye-tracking modalities behind PretestPro. This research demonstrates the company’s focus on transparency and clinical performance. Heru Prime users can also conduct Heru’s Visual Acuity Testing. This additional test requires only 30 seconds. Consequently, clinicians can complete 50% of their pretesting in approximately two minutes.

This faster workflow can support greater exam lane throughput. It can also give clinicians additional time for patient education.

Heru Prime Expands Digital Eye Testing Capabilities

The Heru Prime platform replaces manual workflows and large amounts of legacy equipment. Instead, the portable platform digitizes and automates manual eye tests. As a result, clinicians can improve workflow efficiency and clinical consistency. The wearable design also provides greater flexibility across different care environments.

Clinicians can use the platform in any pre-test area. They can also use it in waiting rooms or remote locations. This flexibility can help practices integrate diagnostic testing into different patient workflows. Nora, Heru’s AI-driven fixation target, guides patients through multiple testing modalities. These capabilities include the new PretestPro and suprathreshold VF testing.

The platform also supports full threshold VF 24-2, 10-2 and 30-2 testing. Clinicians can also perform Esterman VF and visual acuity testing. The Ishihara color vision test is another test that can be used. It also supports near and distance cover tests on the platform. Clinicians may also employ quantitative pupillometry and extraocular motility (EOM) testing. Heru Prime therefore combines multiple diagnostic capabilities into a single portable platform.

With Heru PretestPro™ the company is further expanding its range of automated eye diagnostics. The solution combines wearable technology, VR and eye tracking in one workflow. Existing Heru Prime customers will also be able to access the new functionality via the automatic software update.
