Apple Introduces Apple Watch Series 12 with All-New Health Sensing System

Apple Watch Series 12

Apple introduced Apple Watch Series 12 with a new Health Sensing System and advanced health capabilities. The new Apple Watch Series 12 combines advanced sensors with the new S11 chip. As a result, the device delivers highly accurate heart rate sensing in a wearable.

Apple says the device provides higher-frequency heart rate and heart rate variability measurements. These measurements support a broader range of health and fitness features. The new readiness score also helps users understand their daily capacity. Later this year, Apple will introduce a redesigned Health app for iPhone. The updated app will include a new Longevity tab. It will also feature a Health Age tool for users.

This feature shows how health metrics compare with a user’s age. Meanwhile, the S11 chip supports new Audio Intelligence features. These features will arrive later this year. They will help users remember important moments from conversations. They can also help users stay aware of important sounds.

Apple built these capabilities around privacy, security, and accessibility. In addition, watchOS 27 brings Apple Intelligence to Apple Watch. Siri AI will use personal context and broad world knowledge on the wrist. Apple Watch Series 12 also builds on existing health and safety features. These include advanced workout tracking and sleep tracking capabilities.

Users can also access heart health notifications and the ECG app. The device also supports sleep apnea notifications and Fall Detection. Emergency SOS provides another important safety feature for users. Together, these capabilities make Apple Watch Series 12 a comprehensive wearable. The device combines health, fitness, and safety features in one platform.

“Apple Watch Series 12 is the most advanced health and fitness companion we’ve ever created,” said Kaiann Drance, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Apple Watch Product Marketing. “With our new Health Sensing System and S11 chip, Apple Watch Series 12 gives you meaningful insights, like readiness, so you can better understand how to take on your day and care for your health, plus intelligence features that make everyday life easier. And it’s all wrapped in a beautifully thin, light design you’ll love wearing all day and night.”

More Accurate Heart Rate and HRV Tracking

Apple Watch Series 12 uses a redesigned Health Sensing System for continuous monitoring. The system includes new optical and electrical heart sensors. Together with the S11 chip, these sensors improve heart rate sensing accuracy. Apple says Apple Watch Series 12 offers the most accurate heart rate sensing in a wearable. A scientifically rigorous study supports this performance claim.

The study involved more than 1,000 people from different populations. It was benchmarked against leading wearables by researchers. The Apple Watch was the most accurate of all the testing devices. The optical heart sensor now has bigger green LED’s. These LEDs are also more energy efficient. The sensor measures heart rate every five seconds all day long. This passive monitoring provides enhanced understanding of physiological and fitness states. More accurate measurements also mean more accurate Exercise and Move Activity rings. You can view your real-time heart rate directly on the watch face.

Apple has also added a new Heart Rate complication to the watch face. Apple Watch Series 12 also increases the frequency of HRV measurements. Heart rate variability gives you insight into stress & recovery. The device now measures HRV up to 24 times more frequently. Users can find the information in a new section in the Heart Rate app. The Apple Watch gives users two different HRV measurements. Recovery HRV is about daily stress and recovery signals All in all, HRV offers a more holistic picture of health and cardiovascular health.

In general, the higher your HRV the better your overall recovery. If your HRV is low it could mean you’re under stress or not recovering enough. Recovery HRV measurements against personal baselines are now included in overnight vitals. This method provides consumers with a fuller picture of their health status. A new daytime vitals view provides another level of health monitoring. Measurement can be changed from day to overnight. This can help pick up shifts ahead of when they appear in overnight data.

Readiness Score Helps Users Plan Their Day

Apple Watch Series 12 adds readiness as a new health feature. The feature measures a number of health, fitness measurements. This includes recent activity, training load, vitals and sleep score . Readiness then returns a single score from 0 to 10. The score provides a clear recommendation based on the available data. Recommendations include: Recover, Pace Yourself, Ready, or Go For It.

This information can assist users in planning their daily activities. For instance, users can tailor workouts to their present state of readiness. They can also use the score in the preparation for a workday. The readiness score is updated as new information comes to light. A hard workout can change the score during the day. Changes in vitals during the day can also affect the outcome.

Apple highlights the factors that contribute to each readiness score. Users can tap the score to access additional information. This provides greater context behind the daily recommendation. Apple developed the scoring algorithm using data from the Apple Heart and Movement Study. The company worked with exercise scientists and physicians during development. This research supports the feature’s approach to daily health insights.

New design, materials & durability

The Apple Watch Series 12 is available in a range of finishes and materials. The aluminum models are available in dark bronze, black, light gold and space gray. Titanium models are offered in radiant gold and natural titanium. The new smartwatch also comes with a ceramic option from Apple. The ceramic model is available in pearl white and nite blue. These options give Apple Watch users more ways to personalize their Apple Watch.

The aluminum models now include Ceramic Shield 2. Apple says the material provides greater durability than smartwatch glass. It is also 60 percent tougher than the Ion-X used previously. Apple Watch Series 12 is available to pre-order today. Availability begins Friday, September 18.
