Ambience Healthcare and Houston Methodist Launch Enterprise AI Platform to Boost Patient Care

AI Platform to Enhance Patient Care

Ambience Healthcare has launched its AI platform enterprise-wide at Houston Methodist to strengthen patient care and clinical workflows. The AI platform supports clinical documentation and revenue integrity across the health system. Moreover, Houston Methodist is deploying the AI platform in ambulatory, emergency, and inpatient settings.

Houston Methodist, known for clinical excellence and innovation, selected Ambience after evaluating several ambient AI technologies. However, Ambience stood out due to strong clinician adoption and measurable efficiency gains. As a result, the health system confirmed improvements in experience and care delivery.

“Our goal was to adopt an ambient AI solution that could scale across primary, specialty and subspecialty care, covering ambulatory, emergency, and inpatient settings,” said Dr. Jordan Dale, chief medical information officer and chief health AI officer at Houston Methodist. “Ambience took on the challenge of our complex specialty needs and extended its platform to our emergency and hospital medicine teams. As a result, our clinicians can complete documentation with system-wide context more efficiently while dedicating more attention to our patients.”

Measurable Gains in Clinical Productivity and Patient Experience

The rollout follows an earlier phased ambulatory deployment. Subsequently, Houston Methodist expanded ambient AI into emergency and inpatient environments. As the AI platform scaled, clinicians reported notable workflow improvements.

The health system recorded a 27% increase in patient face time. Additionally, 80% of patient visits now use Ambience across specialties. Clinicians also reduced documentation time by 40%. Furthermore, after-hours “pajama time” declined by 33%. Time to close encounters decreased by 13%. On average, clinicians completed 1.3 additional voluntary visits per day.

Beyond productivity gains, Ambience strengthens operational and financial performance. The AI platform delivers compliant, coding-aware documentation to protect revenue integrity. Consequently, health systems can reduce downstream CDI queries and billing risk. These capabilities also support measurable return on investment.

“With sustained utilization across our clinicians, adopting ambient AI technology has been highly impactful, allowing the chart to work for the physician rather than the physician working for the chart,” said Roberta Schwartz, executive vice president and chief innovation officer at Houston Methodist. “Seeing the joy our physicians express when they can focus fully on their patients has been remarkable.”

This enterprise deployment marks a major step in Houston Methodist’s digital transformation roadmap. Therefore, Ambience now serves as a strategic AI platform across outpatient, inpatient, and specialty care environments.

“Houston Methodist is widely recognized for its leadership in clinical innovation and its disciplined approach to technology adoption,” said Nikhil Buduma, Co-Founder and CEO at Ambience Healthcare. “We’re proud to support their efforts to operationalize ambient AI at enterprise scale, including in emergency and inpatient settings where the complexity is highest.”
