Butterfly Network Expands its Handheld Ultrasound Availability into Brazil to Expand Latin America Medical Imaging Access

Butterfly

Digital health innovator Butterfly Network, Inc. has announced the official launch of its products in South America today. The company introduced its advanced Butterfly iQ+ and iQ3 handheld ultrasound systems directly into the Brazilian marketplace. This deployment relies on a trusted network of authorized local distribution partners. This strategic expansion marks a vital step forward in the brand’s long-term international commercial strategy. Most importantly, the move will significantly expand Brazil’s medical imaging access across both urban and rural hospital networks.

Brazil currently ranks as the single largest medical device market anywhere in Latin America. Furthermore, the country is one of the fastest growing sectors in the world in the adoption of modern ultrasound technology. This dynamic healthcare landscape presents a huge opportunity for point-of-care diagnostics to be deployed at scale.

Improvement of Public Healthcare Infrastructure

The company has two distinct approaches to enhance local clinical workflows. First, the portable systems will boost diagnostic capacity in busy public hospitals, municipal clinics and emergency centers.  Second, the compact devices will easily reach remote, underserved rural communities where geographic barriers frequently delay patient care. Consequently, this deployment will permanently change how regional doctors evaluate patients.

“Successfully meeting Brazil’s regulatory and certification requirements reflects the strength of Butterfly’s technology and our ability to bring trusted ultrasound solutions to clinicians in markets with the highest standards,” said John Soto, Senior Vice President of International at Butterfly Network. “We’re excited to work with our distribution partners to make Butterfly available across Brazil and help more clinicians deliver imaging at the point of care.”

Pioneering Semiconductor Technology

The advanced imaging platform utilizes a proprietary Ultrasound-on-Chip design instead of fragile traditional piezoelectric crystals. This chip connects smoothly with intuitive mobile applications on standard iOS and Android smartphones or tablets. Therefore, the single handheld probe allows healthcare professionals to perform comprehensive whole-body scans anywhere.

This semiconductor approach creates a highly durable, cost-effective, and exceptionally portable diagnostic tool. By replacing bulky, expensive hospital machinery, the tech empowers bedside clinicians with rapid visual insights. This historic Brazilian product rollout ultimately solidifies the company’s global footprint while driving critical breakthroughs to expand Brazil’s medical imaging access.
