Insulet Announces U.S. Rollout of Enhanced Omnipod 5 Algorithm and Expanded Abbott Sensor Compatibility

Insulet Announces U.S. Rollout of Enhanced Omnipod® 5 Algorithm

Insulet Corporation is rolling out its highly anticipated algorithm updates in the United States. These software enhancements upgrade the popular Omnipod 5 Automated Insulin Delivery (AID) System. The fresh updates arrive right after receiving FDA clearance in December 2025.

Even better, the system now connects seamlessly with Abbott’s Libre 3 Plus sensor. This rollout gives diabetes patients much more freedom in choosing their equipment.

Eric Benjamin, an Executive Vice President at Insulet, highlighted their focus on the user.

“Delivering innovations that make diabetes management easier is at the heart of everything we do. These enhancements deliver what users tell us matters most: smarter automation, more personalization, better control, and expanded choice. By offering a lower target glucose option and expanding sensor compatibility, we’re helping people spend less time making decisions about diabetes and more time feeling confident, supported, and in control.”

Algorithm Enhancements Improve Blood Sugar Control

This marks the most notable algorithm upgrade since the system launched in 2022. The update introduces a lower 100 mg/dL Target Glucose setting for users. Doctors can pick from six different settings to tailor care to individual needs. Data shows this lower target safely keeps patients within their ideal glucose range.

The new Omnipods 5 Automated Insulin Delivery (AID) System also minimizes annoying system interruptions. It keeps users in automated mode even during stubborn, high blood sugar events. Insulet has already started shipping compatible Pods to retail channels to prepare for the launch. Users will get an over-the-air software update directly on their controller or app.

Additionally, caregivers can track patient numbers using Abbott’s LibreLinkup mobile app. Insulet plans to launch this integration internationally later this year. The wearable, tubeless pump automatically modifies insulin delivery every five minutes. This discreet, waterproof device completely eliminates multiple daily injections. The Omnipod 5 Automated Insulin Delivery (AID) System is cleared for type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
