Natera and Susan G. Komen have announced a national breast cancer partnership focused on accelerating progress against the disease. The collaboration will support awareness, education, research, and patient initiatives.
Natera Inc offers cell-free DNA testing and precision medicine, while Susan G. Komen is a prominent global breast cancer organization. In the partnership, the two organizations will enhance knowledge on molecular residual disease (MRD). More than 185 peer-reviewed publications support Natera’s Signatera MRD test.
The publications mentioned above span various cancer types, including breast cancer. Moreover, Natera is still working on developing clinical research that will aid in the advancement of personalized cancer treatment. Susan G. Komen Foundation fights breast cancer through research and community health initiatives. It also supports patients, public policies, and international outreach.
“Our growing partnership with Susan G. Komen reflects Natera’s commitment to advancing science with urgency and ensuring that meaningful innovations reach the patients and clinicians who need them most,” said Minetta Liu, M.D., chief medical officer, oncology and early cancer detection, Natera. “We are honored to support Komen’s national event series and stand alongside the patients, advocates, researchers, and healthcare professionals working every day to improve outcomes for people affected by breast cancer.”
Researchers are conducting various ongoing and proposed studies on MRD testing in breast cancer. These studies aim to explore how MRD testing can personalize treatment and guide therapy decisions. Natera will be the Premier National Series Sponsor of Komen’s Race for the Cure® and MORE THAN PINK Walk® in 2026.
Through the national series of 5K runs and walks, Natera will aid in breast health awareness efforts. The company will also assist patients, survivors, and communities. Natera will also assist with patient education programs of the Komen organization, including its “Know More” educational series.
Breast cancer is a significant global health issue. In the US, one woman is diagnosed with breast cancer every two minutes. The condition also constitutes one of the primary reasons for cancer-related deaths among women across the world. There is a significantly lower incidence of male breast cancer, which constitutes only 1% of breast cancer cases.
“Natera’s partnership helps strengthen our reach to fund breakthrough research, support patients and families, and deliver critical resources to communities across the country,” said Victoria Wolodzko Smart, senior vice president of mission, Susan G. Komen. “Together, we can help accelerate progress against breast cancer while ensuring that people facing the disease have access to the education, support, and advocacy they need. We are grateful for Natera’s partnership and shared commitment to creating a world where no one loses their life to breast cancer.”
However, male breast cancers are usually detected at a later stage than other forms of breast cancer. Late detection is one of the factors that can affect treatment results adversely. The collaboration links the research capabilities of Natera and its MRD testing know-how with the advocacy efforts of Komen.
