NextGen Healthcare Introduces Mirth Connect® 4.8, the Most Powerful Version of the World’s Leading Interoperability Engine

NextGen Healthcare

NextGen Healthcare announced the general availability of Mirth Connect 4.8 today. The cloud-based healthcare technology provider calls it the most powerful version yet of the world’s leading healthcare integration engine. The latest release brings new cybersecurity features, enhanced AI assistance, and an improved user experience.

Mirth Connect already powers interoperability in more than 40 countries. The engine enables secure, real-time data sharing. As a result, care teams coordinate better, work more efficiently, and improve clinical outcomes.

“Healthcare organizations need more than an integration engine. They need an accountable partner to deliver high performance and high trust solutions,” said Srinivas (Sri) Velamoor, president and chief executive officer, NextGen Healthcare. “Mirth Connect 4.8 reflects our continued momentum and ongoing commitment to not just innovate this market-leading platform with a new AI-enhanced user and support experience and coordinated security updates, but also deliver dedicated support for achieving business outcomes.”

Mirth Connect 4.8 adds new AI-enabled capabilities. Importantly, it expands Mirth Assist, NextGen Healthcare’s AI-powered interoperability assistant. Mirth Assist provides integration engineers with contextual guidance and assistance, within their current workflows. This enables engineers to work faster and with greater confidence. The assistant also now covers more of the integration lifecycle, from initial development to production monitoring and support.

Tangible Developments in Mirth Connect 4.8

  • Apart from the new AI improvements, the latest version also brings along some remarkable features.
  • Security advancements: The latest updates from NextGen are changing Jetty, Netty, Bouncy Castle, and several core libraries. The organization does the preliminary testing and integrations for its developed extensions.
  • Encryption: Now, users have better security of the critical data in the exported configurations and data at rest in the database.
  • Support for OAuth 2.0: It provides an opportunity for teams to connect to OAuth-secured HTTP and FHIR endpoints.
  • Enhanced script editor: The improvements in JavaScript validation, code folding, and autocompletion have made the development of Mirth Connect better.
  • Updated default H2 Database: The default database available now is a new version of H2 database replacing Apache Derby.
  • UX/UI improvements: One can switch between light and dark themes in Mirth Connect and Command Center.

Command Center Upgrades and Where to See Them

Furthermore, Mirth Connect 4.8 delivers several enhancements to the Command Center. This intuitive “control panel” lets users view and manage servers and channels. Within it, users can access server and channel metrics in a single dashboard. They can also monitor key performance thresholds. In addition, the system sends proactive notifications when thresholds are reached or exceeded.

Meanwhile, U.S. users gain a new storage option. They can offload historical data from their own environments into secure, NextGen-managed cloud storage. Afterward, they can retrieve and reprocess that data on demand. This helps support compliance, security, and disaster recovery needs.

Finally, NextGen Healthcare invites attendees to see Mirth Connect 4.8 in action at two events. The first is its annual User Group Meeting (UGM 26), held November 8-11 in San Diego. The second is HLTH 2026, held November 15-18 in Las Vegas. Those who prefer a self-guided demonstration can visit nextgen.com.
