Paradromics Names Dr. William J. Marks as Chief Clinical Officer

Paradromics

Paradromics Inc. recently selected veteran neurologist and clinical scientist Dr. William J. Marks, Jr. as its new Chief Clinical Officer. Currently, the Texas-based medical enterprise stands as a global leader in high-data-rate neurotechnology. The strategic executive appointment comes at a crucial moment for the rising corporation. Specifically, the team is aggressively advancing its landmark, first-in-human clinical study evaluating advanced brain-computer interface platforms.

Consequently, Marks will operate as the primary full-time internal clinical leader for the brand. He will spearhead essential long-term clinical strategies and direct ongoing product development frameworks. Furthermore, his responsibilities include managing intricate regulatory planning and mapping out future therapeutic indications. Marks brings nearly three decades of dedicated expertise in implantable medical devices, neuroscience, and digital health infrastructure.

Advancing the Connexus BCI Platform

Earlier this month, researchers completed the first human implantation of the Connexus Brain-Computer Interface. This milestone occurred at the University of Michigan Health during the FDA-approved Connect-One Early Feasibility Study. Ultimately, the clinical trial evaluates the platform’s ability to safely restore speech capabilities. It also tests how effectively the device enables computer navigation for individuals surviving with severe motor impairment.

Therefore, Marks will focus heavily on generating the objective medical evidence required to achieve total regulatory approval. He will also optimize future product designs around the real-world experiences of patients and clinicians. Previously, Marks held high-profile corporate leadership roles as the Head of Clinical Neurology at Verily Life Sciences. Additionally, he served as a Consultant Medical Director for Medtronic’s international deep brain stimulation business unit.

“Bill brings the kind of clinical leadership Paradromics needs as we move from first-in-human work toward broader clinical translation,” said Matt Angle, PhD, founder and CEO of Paradromics. “He has helped shape the development of implantable neuromodulation technologies and successfully built clinical science organizations inside major technology companies. His experience will be central to how we turn the Connexus BCI into a scalable clinical platform.”

“Brain-computer interfaces are entering a moment similar to earlier chapters in neuromodulation, when decades of scientific and technical progress begin to become routine clinical care and produce significant clinical impact,” said Dr. Marks. “Paradromics has built a clinical-grade platform with the potential to restore essential human capabilities. My focus will be helping translate that platform into applications and outcomes that can serve patients, clinicians, and caregivers with scientific rigor and clinical excellence.”

Moreover, the newly appointed executive boasts an exceptionally rigorous academic background. He earned a Bachelor of Science from Marquette University and his Doctor of Medicine degree from Johns Hopkins University. Following his graduation, he completed a comprehensive neurology residency at the University of California, San Francisco. Later, he secured a Master of Science in Health Care Management from the Harvard School of Public Health. He also co-founded Nexus NeuroTech Ventures, proving his profound dedication to medical commercialization.

“Paradromics is building a technology company with a healthcare-first foundation,” Angle said. “That distinction is essential. Our ambition is to restore communication, control, and human capability for people with serious neurological conditions, and that requires not only extraordinary engineering, but deep clinical judgment, disciplined evidence generation, and trusted partnerships with the medical community.”
