PHCbi Unveils LiCellGrow™ Cell Expansion Platform

PHCbi just released the LiCellGrow Cell Expansion System, which will change the way advanced therapies are made. This new platform makes cell and gene therapies work better and faster. It lets developers see changes in metabolism in real time. The system also automatically changes the conditions of the culture to get better results.

The system has its own in-line monitoring technology that lets it measure all the time. It keeps an eye on glucose and lactate levels to get an accurate picture of how cells are working. Also, the built-in control technology changes the culture medium at the best times. PHCbi used thirty years of experience with sensors to make this measurement platform. So, users can effectively lower manufacturing costs and cut down on product losses.

To keep things sterile, the LiCellGrow uses single-use culture bags. So, researchers don’t have to do manual sampling tasks anymore. This design greatly lowers the chances of cross-contamination happening during the expansion process. In addition, the small device fits inside a regular CO2 incubator used in labs. This means that costly new facilities won’t be needed.

Chikara Takauo, Director of PHC Corporation and Head of the Biomedical Division, commented:

“We are excited to launch LiCellGrow™ and offer therapy developers a new way to solve common challenges in quality, cost, and delivery of cell and gene therapies. Building on the success of our research-use system LiCellMo™, LiCellGrow™ represents an important step forward in making CGT manufacturing efficient, reliable, and scalable. We are committed to expanding our PHCbi offerings to continue to contribute to the adoption of CGT and other advanced therapy options for hard-to-treat conditions.”

At the Japanese Society for Regenerative Medicine congress, PHCbi will show off the system. The event will happen in Kobe on March 19 and 20, 2026. Lastly, the company wants to add even more products to its line by 2028.
