Sail Biomedicines is advancing In Vivo CAR-T medicines through a strategic collaboration with Johnson & Johnson. The partnership aims to create scalable therapies for immune-mediated diseases.
Sail Biomedicines, a Flagship Pioneering biotech firm creating a novel set of RNA therapies, disclosed the partnership with Johnson & Johnson. The deal brings together Sail’s eRNA™ platform and targeted nanoparticle technology with Johnson & Johnson’s development, manufacturing, and marketing expertise. The two firms would work on the development of novel In Vivo CAR-T treatments. Which have potential to benefit patients suffering from immune-mediated diseases.
In addition, the collaboration will be concentrated on developing In Vivo CAR-T therapy for autoimmune diseases. Which is the flagship technology of Sail. The companies will also consider other technologies within Sail’s pipeline. The integrated product engine developed by Sail aims at enhancing the scalability of next-generation CAR-T therapies.
Sail and Johnson & Johnson Advance Next-Generation Cell Therapy Innovation
This means that Sail is able to regulate the therapy instructions, control cell specificity and timing of expression. The cooperation is based on the research work done by Flagship Labs. The company plans to transform the opportunities of next-generation CAR-T therapies into a new category of medicines.

These therapies may transform the approach to treatment into one that focuses on remission of the disease rather than managing it indefinitely. Hence, the alliance is a crucial milestone for advancing cell therapy innovations. Johnson & Johnson will provide Sail $785 million upfront, including $465 million equity financing under the strategic agreement.
Moreover, Sail stands a chance of receiving milestone payments amounting to $140 million in case of development successes. If Johnson & Johnson decides to exercise its right of acquisition, it will make another payment amounting to $2.58 billion. This partnership has improved the efforts of developing advanced CAR-T therapies.
