Guardant Health Earns 2026 Prix Galien USA Award for Best Medical Technology With Shield Blood Test

USA Award

Guardant Health receives the Best Medical Technology Award from the Prix Galien USA 2026 Awards for pioneering work developing colorectal cancer screening. Guardant Health, Inc. announced that its innovative Shield™ liquid biopsy test, which detects colorectal cancer through blood samples, won the Best Medical Technology Award. It is also the first blood test to secure FDA approval for the screening of the said cancer.

Shield has been recognized with an award for its part in expanding screening options. It also underscores the test’s role in helping to close screening gaps for colorectal cancer across the United States.

The Prix Galien USA Awards, launched in 2007, recognize exceptional scientific achievements in the life sciences. The awards honor innovations that help improve healthcare around the world. The program recognizes accomplishments in eight major categories. Shield was selected by a panel of leading science leaders, Nobel laureates and business executives. It was a major innovation in medical technology, the committee said.

“Today’s recognition affirms what Shield was designed to do: improve population health by making colorectal cancer screening more accessible,” said AmirAli Talasaz, Guardant Health co-CEO. “Built on more than a decade of pioneering, proprietary innovation in blood-based testing, Shield has continually demonstrated its ability to increase screening adherence in real-world settings, helping more people get screened and advancing our mission to close the nation’s colorectal cancer screening gap.”

Shield Blood Test Strengthens Colorectal Cancer Screening

Shield has gained recognition from leading healthcare organizations. The American Cancer Society and National Comprehensive Cancer Network include the test in their guidelines. Additionally, Shield stands as the most clinically validated blood test currently available in the market.

The company has carried out over 200,000 Shield tests in real life settings. Results show that the test improves overall CRC screening rates. Shield achieved over 90% compliance, demonstrating how blood tests can increase participation in colorectal cancer screening.

A recent modelling study was conduct to understand the long term benefits of using a blood test. The study looked at patients throughout their lifetime to understand how they comply to follow up colonoscopies. Shield showed an increase in patients undergoing follow-up colonoscopies. Shield led to more colonoscopies than FIT and mt-sDNA testing and prevented more colorectal cancer-related deaths.

This shows the need to improve accessibility to screening and indicate how blood tests can be use to achieve this.

Guardant Health keeps innovating in this area. The Prix Galien USA Award 2026 showcases the significance of Shield in the field of medical technology. This recognition highlights the growing use of blood-based technologies to improve access to cancer screening.
