Agilent Technologies recently announced the official launch of the BioTek Cytation 9 Cell Imaging Multimode Reader. This new platform combines multimode microplate reading with high-content cell imaging. It represents the latest addition to the established Cytation portfolio. The system helps laboratories move from raw samples to actionable insights much faster. It supports diverse workflows ranging from basic research to high-content screening.
The design of the instrument centers on the researcher’s capability to carry out cell-based and biochemical assays. It offers expanded imaging capabilities and advanced hybrid microplate detection technologies. Key features of the new technology involve the use of inverted fluorescence microscopy and upright imaging. These tools allow laboratories to streamline their workflows. They also provide necessary flexibility for many different applications.
Enhanced Speed for Research Discovery
“For over a decade, Agilent’s Cytation imagers have been used to automate tedious manual microscopy work and complex image analysis tasks,” said Xavier Amouretti, Vice President, BioTek and Seahorse Business Unit Leader at Agilent. “Cytation 9 is designed around the same principles, with a broader application range and twice the imaging speed.”
The development of the system followed direct feedback from thousands of existing users. This input helped Agilent address the rigorous demands of modern pharmaceutical laboratories. The BioTek Cytation 9 Cell Imaging Multimode Reader offers twice the speed of previous models. This efficiency is critical for drug discovery and disease research.
“We believe Cytation 9 will help accelerate the next wave of discoveries in cell biology and drug development,” Amouretti added.
Agilent continues to lead the industry in analytical laboratory technologies. The company reported a revenue of $6.95 billion for the 2025 fiscal year. It maintains a global workforce of approximately 18,000 employees. This new release strengthens its position in the life sciences and diagnostics market.
