Health Info Net Strengthens Sovereign Digital Healthcare With Red Hat and VSHN

Switzerland’s healthcare system just got a significant technology upgrade. Health Info Net AG (HIN) has joined forces with Red Hat and VSHN. Together, they are building a sovereign, cloud-native infrastructure for digital healthcare. The goal is simple: to deliver more secure and resilient health services to Swiss citizens.

From Physical Servers to a Modern Cloud Foundation

HIN has served Switzerland’s healthcare sector for nearly 30 years. The organization provides IT services, data handling, and encrypted email channels to healthcare professionals and institutions throughout Switzerland. It connects approximately 90% of relevant stakeholders in the Swiss healthcare system. As regulatory demands grew, HIN knew it was time to modernize.

The migration moved fast. HIN shifted from static physical servers to a multivendor private cloud architecture based on Red Hat OpenShift. VSHN managed the entire OpenShift implementation. Impressively, VSHN stood up the new environment in just 36 hours using the platform’s native automation. VSHN also earned serious recognition for this work. The company received the 2025 Red Hat Switzerland Partner Award for Platform Modernization of the Year.

The results are already visible. The platform targets 99.99% availability. HIN can now release new features and upgrades faster, without impacting existing workloads. HIN has already moved key services to the platform. This includes encrypted messaging for doctor-patient communications. Developers benefit too. By removing infrastructure complexity, engineering teams can focus entirely on building better digital health tools.

Richard Zobrist, Country Manager, Switzerland, Red Hat, commented on the collaboration:

“Digital sovereignty requires operational control over technology, strategic flexibility, and trust. Collaborating with VSHN to deliver Red Hat OpenShift as a managed service, we provide HIN with a sovereign-ready platform. HIN can harness the scale of hybrid cloud while maintaining operational independence and long-term resilience. This foundation will enable the HIN team to act quickly, which will enhance efficiency, the speed of digitizing patient records, and the availability of healthcare services.”

Mohammad Alavi, CTO, Health Info Net, said:

“Data integrity and security are paramount in the healthcare industry, and we must adapt continuously to evolving regulations around sovereignty. With support from Red Hat and VSHN, our teams have embraced modern open source technologies and an agile working culture to gain greater flexibility, choice, and control. The collaboration allows us to deliver a consistent, more resilient experience for both healthcare providers and their patients.”

Aarno Aukia, Co-Founder, VSHN, said:

“Working in healthcare, we have a tangible impact on people’s lives. We wanted to make foundational technology choices that can benefit society in the future. With Red Hat, we can build in security and multitenancy capabilities that keep options open for HIN as it continues to grow and adapt.”

This collaboration is about more than technology. It ensures that when a doctor sends a message or a patient accesses records, the system behind it stays secure and fully under Swiss control. HIN is establishing a blueprint for the future of digital health. With Red Hat and VSHN by its side, that future looks more reliable than ever.
