Deenova has started implementing a pharmacy automation interoperability platform at Fondazione IRCCS Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico di Milano. The new integrated medication management system aims to enhance automation, traceability, and operational efficiency across the hospital pharmacy environment.
The project will be delivered by a Temporary Consortium of Companies led by Deenova. Becton Dickinson Italia and GPI will participate in the implementation process. The initiative strengthens Deenova’s position as a leading provider of interoperable hospital pharmacy solutions.
Deenova has consistently promoted a connected approach to medication management. The company combines automation, software, traceability, and clinical workflows within a unified ecosystem. Therefore, the new project focuses on integrating existing application components at Policlinico di Milano.
Integrated Pharmacy Automation and Medication Management System
The pharmacy automation interoperability project introduces a technology architecture that connects multiple healthcare technology solutions. The system combines BD’s BD Rowa Vmax 160 for high-density storage within the central pharmacy. The solution integrates GPI/Riedl’s Ward Phasys system for controlled medication management in departmental areas. It also includes Deenova’s ALL-IN-1 Meds secure cabinets for decentralized storage and controlled access to medication packs at ward level.
These systems operate through a middleware environment powered by ORBIT. Deenova developed ORBIT as proprietary software to support medication traceability and workflow coordination. The platform enhances operational continuity across the medication management process. It improves patient safety through the accurate tracking of medication movement.
The integrated architecture allows central pharmacy automation, secure medication cabinets, ward level control systems and digital connectivity to work together in concert. This will allow the pharmacy environment of the hospital to be more efficient and coordinated, for the benefit of the Policlinico di Milano.
Deenova Improves Hospital Pharmacy Interoperability
The implementation is a testament to Deenova’s long-term commitment to pharmacy automation interoperability. The company believes connected healthcare technologies have more value when they work via integrated systems. Deenova is not about separate technologies, it is about a single ecosystem. This allows hospitals to streamline medication workflows and maintain safety as a priority. The Policlinico di Milano solution illustrates the benefits of automation and digital integration on modern hospital pharmacy activities. The platform serves as a scalable foundation for future advancements in healthcare technology.
Commenting on the award, Giorgio Pavesi, CEO of Deenova, said, “This award reinforces a conviction Deenova has held since the beginning: interoperability is not an accessory to hospital pharmacy automation, it is its true enabling architecture. Only when technologies, data and workflows are connected can automation deliver its full value in safety, efficiency and scalability.”
The project represents another step toward advancing smart hospital pharmacy management. Through this collaboration, Deenova, Becton Dickinson Italia, and GPI aim to improve medication handling processes with connected automation solutions.
